Best Location for Snorkeling in Cancun
Club Med Cancun is a great resort for families. It has all the amenities that one could ask for (multiple pools, multiple restaurants, multiple bars, a waterslide park, water sport, and pickleball. And, it is located next to one of the most amazing coral reefs including underwater statues of the MUSA. Unfortunately, Club Med doesn't do enough to promote its premier aquatic location. Instead you'll see people from other tours (Aqua World) snorkeling in front of the resort without having access to what seems like an easy swim (it's really a longer swim than you think). If you go to Club Med Cancun, be prepared for a very fun time, but make sure you are prepared to wait 1-2 days for your clothes to dry (it's very humid, the room's a/c doesn't dehumidify enough, and there is very limited clothes drying space). Nonetheless, my family and I had a great time (it's was our 3rd time going there in 6 years).

I had the time of my life (again) at Club Med on another mother/daughter trip June 2025
My Mom and I took a red-eye flight from San Francisco, California (SFO) to Cancun, Mexico (CUN) and we were very tired by the time we got to Club Med but Lalo’s positive welcoming energy helped us feel at ease and rejuvenated our tired spirits. Lalo suggested we enjoy breakfast and by then our room should be ready. When it wasn’t, Lalo provided us with another room. The reception area was short staffed, so he went above and beyond, carrying our luggage to the room. Later, his colleagues Deivy and Carlos facilitated our move into our ocean view room overlooking the snorkeling shack. Thank you everyone.
On the first night, at dinner, it was great to see some familiar faces from our trip back in April 2025. Reception GOs Susana and Alonso invited us to join them for dinner. They are such clear communicators, welcoming and informative. I had fun conversing with them and learning more about their families, Mexican culture, and their past travels. Alonso traveled to San Francisco as a teenager, it was nice to hear about his SF adventure! He is competent, caring and respectful. Susana has a very beautiful smile, beautiful long mermaid hair and is very smart.
Our room was amazing! We stayed at the section with an ocean view, near the snorkeling area. In April 2025, we had a view of the lagoon and main pool area, but nothing beats an ocean view. We woke up to the sea breeze and went to bed with the sea breeze. It’s spooky how pitch black the ocean gets at night and how bright it is by morning.
The housekeeping team was exceptional at restoring our room with great care, leaving enough towels, toilet paper, bottled waters, and removing all traces of sand that had been inadvertently trekked in. And doing so without displacing anything. Simply amazing!
I visited Club Med Cancun the end of May through the first week of June 2025 during Memorial Week, the first week school was out for summer. The resort was pretty booked but didn’t feel overcrowded because of its thoughtful layout and countless activities for all ages.
As someone with food allergies and aversions, I tend to do my research. The staff at La Hacienda (buffet style dining area) and Taco Arte (beach lounge restaurant) were amazing at preparing a variety of food, including allergy and plant based / vegan friendly openings—something for all guests of any age. Chef Irad was amazing at accommodating my food allergies (peanuts, tree nuts, and dairy) and also informed Chef Alejandro, the evening chef.
Typically, one or two of the pastas were cooked with olive oil instead of butter. A large bowl of cheese was on the side as an option, making it allergy friendly and enjoyable for many. The different types of pastas were delicious—the pesto pasta was my favorite!
Chef Irad and the kind lady who was in charge of making pizzas went out of their way to make me a personal pizza without cheese on two occasions, and I am grateful to them both. I wish Club Med had dairy-free plant based cheese and offered a dairy-free and/or vegan pizza option. I also enjoyed the flatbread pizza, which consisted of bread, oil, oregano and salt, which they graciously prepared even on days when it wasn’t on the menu.
There were many food options for lunch and dinner, from simple foods like hamburgers, hot dogs or noodles to authentic Mexican food, seafood, countless meats and chicken dishes.
There were always staples like rice, beans and freshly grilled vegetables, and two tables filled with whole fruits and cut fruits. There were also tables filled with various breads and gluten free muffins.
For breakfast there was oatmeal, one pot made with milk and the other with water, making it allergy friendly. Also, dairy free overnight oats and a soy based pudding with garnishments galore. There were other options for breakfast such as, waffles, pancakes, French toast, crepes, bacon, sausages, eggs cooked in various ways, traditional Mexican breakfast options, a juice bar, a baby food station, a drink station and pastries galore. I loved the gluten free plain muffins.
The food presentation was very clean and aesthetically pleasing. I had no trouble finding allergy friendly food I enjoyed at Club Med Cancun. Thank you Chef Irad and Chef Alejandro.
Chef Irad also made personal sized vegan desserts and ensured there was a variety of plant-based/vegan food options daily. Some included the fresh fruit, of course, along with salads and grilled and seasoned vegetables such as; greens, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower with this delicious spicy seasoning, and other vegetables. There were different types of yummy rices; such as tomato based, white, brown and wild rice. Different dishes with lentils, vegan meatballs, tofu and even quinoa.
In the future, besides the green lime sorbet, which I am not a fan, we were hoping for plant-based / vegan ice cream (soy, coconut or oat milk based).
Chef Irad was just downright amazing, understanding knowledgeable, and caring. On the last day of our trip when we thanked him for accommodating our various dietary needs, he gifted us a book titled, Flavors of the World: 70 Best Recipes of Club Med Chefs, with the hopes that we could enjoy some of the Club Med recipes while adapting them to fit our dietary needs. He even signed the inside of the book. I will forever cherish this special book gifted to me by the only chef I have ever encountered to be so down to earth, kind, caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable. Thank You Chef Irad.
The rest of the staff were incredible, replenishing dishes and keeping the area clean and hygienic. Sweeping and cleaning up spills, wiping down counters and serving utensils. Keeping a safe and clean environment.
As soon as we sat at our table, the kind servers would take our drink orders. We usually got sparkling water (in Spanish, agua minérales.) My mom enjoys drinking warm water and the staff would always fill her huge Hydroflax thermos with utmost care. As we entered they would approach and say “Agua caliente y agua minerales” — they took time to observe guests and meet their needs.
Axel is amazing as well as Leidi, Lilia, Tomasa, and Orlando. They had a positive attitude, nice smiles, and were fast at clearing away plates and drink glasses and noticing when we needed clean napkins or utensils.
The bartenders at the many locations around the village are also efficient and hard-working at keeping up with all those drink orders. Especially the bartenders at the Crêperie. We are non-drinkers, but I certainly enjoyed drinking my weight in Shirley Temples. The bartenders knew my drink order before I could ask. Jorge, at Taco Arte bar, was amazing at making fancy Shirley Temples by adding a cherry and serving it in a nice glass.
There were plenty of activities to participate in during the day and different shows every night.
Some activities that I enjoyed were:
paddle boarding, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, water slide, swimming in the ocean and pool, aquagym, yoga and archery. Most of all, I really enjoyed the Foam Party at the main beach and wish it took place every day!
Guests are transported, via gulf cart shuttles, to and from the various activities around the village and the drivers were so kind, caring, funny, and informative, always putting a smile on my face.
The evening entertainment and shows were amazing!
Some of my very favorite mini club shows were The Princesa show and Cancunamatata show.
My favorite main shows were the nights that the GOs put on the show. From the afro/electric dancing performance to the very deep and moving trapeze performances, I was captivated until the very last second. The dance captain from the Dominican Republic is a talented amazing performer/teacher. It was fun to take Latin Dancing lesson classes. I really enjoy when the GOs put on the show and not the outside entertainment services because the GOs bring a different vibe—a more organic, fun, exciting, astonishing vibe. Makes it more homey and loving. It is nice to converse with them about their performances and watch their talents and art shine during the evening.
I loved participating in the evening dancing. The GOs did a great job encouraging guests out of their seats and onto the dance floor. Lalo also managed the lights for all the shows with great care.
The main pool and aquamarine pool were so clean. Every morning and throughout the day, staff would clean the pool environment. Making sure there is no sand or excess water, which can make the area slippery, or leafs and bugs in or around the pool area.
The main beach and beach near the water sports was also very clean.
The water, clear turquoise blue and the sand so white! I enjoyed swimming in the ocean and felt safe doing so as there were lifeguards and beach security patrolling the area.
The water slides were incredibly fun!
Club Med has a kids cub and teens club with age appropriate activities and caring, kind GOs. The GOs are incredible at bringing energy, rhythm and joy to the various activities for the enjoyment of the guests.
I remembered most of the GOs from my time at Club Med Cancun back in April 2025 and they remembered me.
Nelson is amazing and so incredible at the various activities he leads. He brings relentless energy, passion and creativity to the classed he teaches in French and English. His energy is unmatchable! I enjoyed participating in Aquagym with Nelson and Jack Powers. Different styles but both are amazing at teaching Aquagym, funny and encouraging. Jack Powers is a funny jokester and I always laugh from the heart every time I have a conversation with him. He brings this energy and light to the activity he leads and interactions with guests.
Joa is so sweet and caring. It was good to get to chat with him during cocktail hour. He has a kind smile and heart and it was lovely to talk to him about his family and culture (back in Haiti) and also learn about local life in Cancun (visiting Mercado 28).
Mr. Pygama is precise at teaching archery. He gives clear instructions, is very patient, funny and encouraging. He made me feel competent while trying something new.
I love Club Med Cancun because I felt encouraged by the GOs, not judged. They welcomed me with kind smiles and words of encouragement. Always checking in to see how I am doing, feeling and if I am having fun.
Abces, who is quiet and super observant, kind hearted, focused and knowledgeable, went above and beyond, to take me sailing. My mom did not feel comfortable sailing this trip even though Abces had taught us how to sail during our last trip. I really wanted to sail and was determined and straight forward enough to ask if one of the watersports GO could take me sailing. They were short staffed that day but would take me the following day, where water sports happened to be closed all day due to winds, stormy weather, rough seas. (BTW, that was the only day during my 9 day trip that watersports was closed.) I came back the next day, which happened to be my last day in Cancun, and before I even asked, Abces remembered and offered to take me sailing. He pulled up the sail boat close to the shore so I could get on comfortably, then we set sail. I learned so much from observing many traits, not just his obvious sailing skills, but his kindness and generosity of spirit and time. (Side note, in April 2025, I lost my oar paddle boarding and he promptly rescued me with the security speedboat.) I had so much fun sailing! Abces, thank you for your kindness and generosity of time and spirit.
The other watersports GOs were so kind, caring, patient and good at their job.
Luis, Obed, Lalo, and Max would always help fit me with the correct life jacket and untie the kayak or paddle board and give me a push to start. I am a bit weary of the fish and Luis or Max would splish and splash the water and shoo them out of the way. They also pointed out the big rocks to watch out for. Luis or Max also helped hold the kayak as I sat inside. The watersports team went above and beyond to make sure I felt safe and had fun while out on the water whether I was sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, or snorkeling. Which reminds me, Max was so patient as I went snorkeling, answering all my questions and putting some of my worries to ease about sharks and sting rays and getting washed out to sea.
There are some very watchful, amazing lifeguards on duty. I especially met a few at the waterpark that were so observant and watchful. They noticed my headband fall off going down the waterslide and helped me locate it. It was fun to converse with the lifeguards in Spanish (verde muyo rapido) and on the very last day a very kind female lifeguard gave me a seashell bracelet because she noticed seashells in my hair and my jewelry. That was so sweet and kind of her. I wish I remembered her name. Just look for a beautiful smile with metal enforced teeth and a big heart. I will never forget her kindness and beautiful face. It was fun exchanging friendship bracelets. A little part of me will always be in Cancun. Te Amo Cancun y GO y Club Med.
Eric, a photographer, captured the most joyful pictures of us racing down the waterslide and many other memorable images. Rachid, who also works in the photo shop, was extremely helpful in locating our pictures from our trip in April that no one else had been able to find, and offered us a generous photo package deal.
Our Cancun adventure sadly came to an end. The bellboys, Orlando and his buddy, whom I forgot his name, were very helpful.
Checking out was bittersweet. It was so sad (muyo triste) to say goodbye, especially Alonso, Susana, Joa and Lalo who went out of their way to come for our final farewell. They waved goodbye until the taxi pulled out of view.
I can’t wait to go back. Hopefully, with more members of my family. And who knows, maybe next time I will be brave enough to go scuba diving or take part in one of the many excursions offered at Club Med Cancún.
Thank you for the memories.
Muchos Gracias Por Todo

High-energy party vibe and fun for all!
Just returned from a week at Club Med Cancun and thoroughly enjoyed it. We went with large group of family and extended relatives that ranged from grade school to grandparents. There was something for everyone (as expected). Those who wanted to chill on the beach, sip a drink, and swim in the ocean were all set. The more active folks had lots of sports and fitness options. The atmosphere was like a giant beach/pool party. And there were a variety of food options, all of high quality. The grounds and facilities were well maintained. There were cultural excursions available, too, if you wanted to leave the grounds (we visited a Mayan archeaological site and swam in a cenote).
Kudos to the GO's and GE's... and of course, the other GM's who were there as well since it's really the whole experience. Overall, it was nothing short of spectacular.
A special shout out to the trapeze/circus team led by Adan and including Victoria, Pia, Maude, and Silver: these guys/gals are AMAZING. They really were so inviting, encouraging, fun, and friendly... and did a great job with everyone on the trapeze from beginners to experienced flyers. It really was the highlight of the trip. Thank you!!!
